Addison's Disease and other illnesses
There seems to be enough on our plates when we have Addison's Disease alone...but other illnesses do occur and many are chronic. What impact does this have on your Addison's? or the other illness? It most definitely complicates all. It will many times mean a need for more steroid support for the Addison's. A crisis may be more likely. When a flare of a chronic illness occurs it will affect your Addison's, meaning you may need more steroid just to maintain your normal level of activity or stability. Anything that causes a stress will deplete your steroid and threaten a crisis. And another illness is a stress. Please keep this in mind and do not hesitate to increase your steroid when necessary. But always consult your medical advisor for their recommendations on how best to treat your Addison's and keep all medical professionals involved in your treatment aware of what each is prescribing or doing to control or treat your illnesses.
Do not feel that you are being fragile or, dare I say, a wimp if you are having a difficult time managing your illnesses. You are stronger than you think!
Enjoy your spring...and take care of you! Without guilt!

Jo, Don't I know about multple Illness huh? This Crohn's has me running up and down the stairs straight to the bathroom...and if need be I need to bump up my HC. I have had 3 major flair ups in the past few months, but couldn't keep anything in my stomach with the first bout. SO...off to the ER for fluids and Solu-Medrol. I keep my emergency shot nearby at all times, and everybody in the family knows how to give me a shot. What a crazy life.

So true, sometimes I feel worn down from all the multiple battles, then, on the other hand, I can feel much stronger because of all that I have been through. Go figure!

I do believe that other problems are contributing to my poor Addison's control. I am getting some form of arthritis...I am getting old! Who , me? Hard to think about it!
My husband got diagnosed april 2012. After nearly 4 years of so many drs and specialist and then just prescribing zantac I was literally watching him die. Now that he has been diagnosed over a year he is still unstable. His endo says he is now type 1 diabetic (not insulin dependant) been diagnosed with meneirs disease, gastroparesis, and hypigonadism all stemming from addisons. Prescriptions added onto prescriptions weren't fixing anything! He takes his hydro and flirinef but he takes some natural supplements and is finally feeling better than ever. But do any if you have the mental affects? Depression.....mood swings....no drive. .. and even hallucinations? Its really starting me that this part will get worse and no doctors will listen when I tell them. They just want to prescribe wellbutrin or paxil and those make it worse. My husband feels very alone with this disease and has lost almost every single friend because he lashes out and has mood swings and is just generally negative and depressed. He is taking rodiola rosea and that has been a MIRACLE! I was just wondering if other addisonisans have had this problem

Trish, I am sorry your husband is having such a difficult time. Has he had his testosterone checked? Does he take DHEA? This could be a hormonal thing...how about his thyroid? It sounds like multiple endocrine diseases. Was the diabetes diagnosed by looking at antibodies? If he isn't on insulin it may not be full blown diabetes yet. Most with type one are insulin dependent.
